My background is in IT and I currently teach the subject in a College of Further Education. I have had an interest in embroidery for a long time, beginning with cross-stitch magazines when at college. I have since expanded my repetoire of stitches and techniques and exhibited with the Durham City Branch of the Embroiderers' Guild. I enrolled with the OCA to further develop my textile design skills and gain a qualification which may lead to a change of career. My special interests are in ethnic designs and I am influenced by 2 years living in Nigeria doing voluntary work there where I fell in love with the bright African fabrics and vibrant landscapes.
