Paul Postle

I am a photographer with over twenty years’ experience in the music, book and magazine publishing industry.

I live in Kingston upon Thames and recently returned to higher education and graduated from Kingston University with an MA in Design with Learning & Teaching.

I am the third generation of portrait photographer in my family. My great grandfather shot on quarter plate glass negs documenting rural life on the south coast and my grandmother taught me black and white darkroom skills from an early age. For over a decade I ran colour darkrooms before moving into digital. I now shoot almost exclusively on full frame digital cameras using Apple macs, Photoshop and inkjet printers. My experience covers most aspects of photography and over the years I have tackled a wide range of commissions, mainly portraiture, including:

  • Over 300 book covers for every major publisher in the UK.
  • Commissioned by leading consumer magazines including Esquire, Heat, NME, Q and The Times.
  • Commissioned by BBC, Sky, ITV and Five TV to produce publicity shots for shows including The Pub Landlord, Omid Djalili, Robin Hood, The Fattest Boy in Britain and Brainiacs.
  • In 2010 forty of my photographs were included in the documentary "No Distance Left To Run" about the band Blur.

My editorial portfolio is available to view at www.paulpostle.co.uk

I currently teach part time at Kingston University on level 5 and level 6 degree courses. Most recently I was nominated for best in show for my work in the Tent London Design Show 2010. This was for an interactive piece where visitors were encouraged to physically engage with my imagery to compose a graphic collage. Currently I am working on researching, restoring and cataloguing the photographs of Katherine Routledge, explorer of Easter Island & Kenya circa 1914 with the view of producing the first major review of her work in 2011 at The Greyladyes Art Centre.

I have started working with the Open College of the Arts tutoring photography because I enjoy assisting students from all backgrounds, age and ability. Distance learning enables students to enhance their knowledge and improve their skills in the comfort and security of their own environment. It means students can develop at their own pace, always knowing they have the support and guidance of an experienced and qualified professional.
