I am a practising artist based in the Scottish Borders.
I graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1993 having studied Drawing and Painting to Masters Level. My work is based on land and the environment and elements within that and currently at a specific site of special scientific interest. The working process involves direct drawing, painting, and researching site material (using the electron microscope where appropriate) – distilling the information to create works that reveal another dimension. These works are mainly on canvas and paper, often on a large scale.
My work is exhibited regularly and my last series of work – August 2006 ‘Seeds of Time 2’ was shown in Peebles Museum Gallery and is going on tour in 2009. I am currently working on a new project.
Work can also be seen on www.ssa-org (early work) www.borderssculptors.org/www.Edinburgh Printmakers.co.uk and Axis website (early work).
I have been a tutor with the Open College of the Arts since 1997, tutoring Painting One, Two, Three, Advanced and Watercolour. I run group tutorials at my studio and tutor postal students. I tutor students of all ages and abilities who would like to draw and paint and to develop their work further. The Courses allows people to work from their own homes/studios, in their own time, and develop at their own pace, with the support of a tutor.
I teach Life Drawing to Certificate level at Borders College, Galashiels. I am a Professional and Council member of The Society of Scottish Artists. www.lizdouglas.co.uk (January 2009)
