Heather Jolliffe

Heather was born in the heart of the New Forest, close to the Hampshire and Dorset coastline; a place, amongst others, which Heather draws on as a source of inspiration for her artwork- wildlife, seascape and landscape drawing and painting.

After completing a Foundation Course in Visual Studies at Bournemouth & Poole College of Art, she moved to London to study Fine Art at the Royal Academy of Arts. Her passion for her favoured subjects evolved after this, prompting field trips to natural locations to develop sketchbook work direct from life, capturing and recording the shapes, colours and textures of natural forms. This preparatory work provides the basis for larger, more detailed artworks.

Heather is a regular and freelance tutor, not only for wildlife and landscape, but also life drawing and portraiture, watercolours and other drawing and painting mediums. Since the late 1990’s, Heather has been a demonstrator for Derwent pencils, is a founder member of the UK Coloured Pencil Society, a member of the RASA, the Royal Academy Schools Alumni, and is a Professional Associate of the Society for all Artists.

Apart from classes, workshops and exhibitions, Heather has participated in annual art events like the Big Draw Campaign and the Artist’s and Illustrator’s Fair, or in art related activities at events like the Lee Valley Bird watching Fair or the British Bird watching Fair held at Rutland Water.

Heather enjoys the interaction between art tutor and student; nurturing the development of their creative skills and interests, and supporting and guiding the student as experienced through her own art education.
