Elizabeth (known as Jane) was educated at Wakefield Girls’ High School, West Yorkshire, then at Barnsley Art College under John McPake (a fellow of the Royal Society of Painter/Printmakers and is currently President of Manchester Academy of Fine Arts). She then went on to study Fine Art (with Art History) at Newcastle University under John Peace and John Milner (Art History).
Jane exhibits work regularly, taking part in The Society of Equestrian Artists exhibitions at the Mall Gallery and Christies, London, The Great Sheffield Art Show, The Octagon, Sheffield, The South Yorkshire Open Art Exhibition at The Cooper Gallery, Barnsley, and at a variety of other galleries and venues throughout the Yorkshire region.
As a member of the SEA, SAA, OCA and Pennine Artists Art Societies/groups, she exhibits throughout the Yorkshire area, and is available for workshops and demonstrations to groups or individuals on a wide selection of subjects.
Upon graduating, she began to follow an interest in portraiture, specialising in equestrian scenes, starting in business in 1992 to present day, accepting portrait and landscape commissions.
From 1993 to 2006 Jane became involved in Adult Education in the community, starting her teaching career at ‘Heydays’ at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds, and later teaching a selection of art media and techniques for the WEA (Workers’ Educational Association).
From 2003 to date she works part time for Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council as an art and craft tutor in the Adult and Family Learning sector, working increasingly with students with disabilities and/or young families.
From September 2006 to date, she has created and developed the Toddler Group, ‘Hen’s Chicks’, to allow parents and carers to develop creative play strategies with under 5yr olds, specifically involving art and craft activities to encourage the development of artistic freedom, expression and confidence within the family unit.
Jane is certified to teach adults and young people through BMBC and holds a QTFE(2) and BA (Hons) in Fine Art. She also has enhanced CRB disclosure.
As a tutor for the Open College of The Arts, she supports distance learning and face-to-face tuition in the Drawing and level 1 & 2 Painting courses.
Jane ran a number of workshops at the OCA Head Office in Barnsley in 2008 and 2009.
