I see from the entry requirements that a degree in Fine Art is a pre requisite for the course, however I wonder if professional experience allows an entry route too ?
The course information asks for 15 images to be submitted with the application and also mentions sketchbook work. Should this sketchbook work be included in the 15 images or in addition to them (15 images in total doesn't seem very many)?
Are the interviews and study sessions held at the OCA in Barnsley or at one of the University for the Creative Arts sites?
Can I join the course if I live overseas?
What is the deadline to join the course?
I am not a painter but work in a variety of other media (glass, textile art, printmaking and photography for example). Can I pursue my Fine Art ambitions in these media by doing this MA with you?

FINANCE

Once a student has commenced the course, are they liable for the entire fee even if they decide to leave the course part way through?

If students change their mind about participating in the course, they may ask for a refund on their first payment within one month of paying for the course.

If a student decides, after six months of study, that the MA is not for them, they will forfeit a proportion of the cost, but if other payments have been made they are refundable.

You can exit with a post graduate diploma once you have 120 credits.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS AND PROCESS


I see from the entry requirements that a degree in Fine Art is a pre requisite for the course, however I wonder if professional experience allows an entry route too?

If your portfolio is good enough then we may take you based on this and what you tell us about your background (for example if you have been an artist for many years, or have a related qualification). You can send us an online portfolio or disk and we will interview you over the phone. It maybe that what you need to do is to complete some undergraduate modules with us first, to prepare the ground for the MA.

This is a guideline. You may submit a few more images than 15 and certainly sketchbook work can also be submitted.

Neither. The interviews are over the phone and we ask for work to be submitted digitally to support the interview.

Can I join the course if I live overseas?

Yes, as long as you have good bandwidth and can stream video on your computer. The only constraints for international students are that you are required to take part in synchronous seminars from time to time. If you live in a different time zone from the UK then these may take place an unsocial hours.

The programme entry deadline for 2012 is June 30th 2012 though we may take late entries if we are not up to capacity.

Yes, you can work in a range of media of your choice: the only requirement is that you are practising Fine Art.

None, though there is an introductory workshop in Feb but if you cannot attend this will be videoed and available online

The MA Fine Art requires at least 11 hours per week over 3 years.

Yes, the final project is mounted in the UK. We can mount to your specification or you can come and do it yourself. We have our own exhibition space.

Who are the tutors on the course? Can you tell me something about them?

The three tutors in the first year are all experienced in teaching on MA programmes. They are as follows:

  1. Emma Bulley. http://www.emmabulley.co.uk She has taught on the MA programme at several Universities, and is now Programme Leader for the MA Fine Art at OCA.

There will also be visiting lecturers during the programme. There may be additional tutors in year two and beyond. Tutor details are available on request.

How many hours tuition is provided on the course?

Typically for a 30 credit module the breakdown of activity will be as follows:

  • 3 tutorials (one to one)
  • 4 video lectures
  • 3 synchronous seminars (this means in real time)
  • 2 asynchronous seminars (this means you contribute at times convenient to you)
  • regular forum activity
  • critical review written feedback
