    Hello

I've just enrolled on the Foundation Course after many many art free years. Very impressed by the portfolios I've been looking at (but little concerned that I have no hope of getting to your standard - eek!)

Would like to know how the distance learning works out for people - an art teacher I work with was a bit unsure about the whole idea!

Also would love to hear from any others on the Foundation Course or living in Norwich area.

Hello rachalulabelle and a warm welcome to the OCA forum. I'm on my last course for the degree (no guarantees), from the Caribbean, and have enjoyed it very much. The distance factor -- it's not for everyone but it has many advantages: working at your own pace, not having to go to lectures, written tutor reports that you can study at your leisure, and many other things. There are some disadvantages too, like isolation, but if you are determined and have a positive attitude you'll be able to cope with it. You'll do fine, I can tell, and may you spend many happy hours making art, and giving the rest of us some tips in the forum.

    Thanks folio

I think I'll like the distant learning as I have recently completed an OU social science degree and chose that because I like to work at my own pace and not be tied down to lectures etc. I was really excited to find out I could do an art course this way as would have struggled to attend traditional lessons. I'm really looking forward to getting my course pack and can't wait to get started!

    Hi rachalulabelle,
Welcome to the course from me too. I've been at it for about a year now and I've thoroughly enjoyed myself. I seem to have slowed down a bit at the moment largely due to pressures of full time employment but I have managed to get into a monthly group for figure drawing. So that makes me do something rather than just think about it.
I'm very pleased that there is someone else out there who is on my course and has actually posted a message.
Unfortunately Norwich is on the other side of the country to me but I hope to see some of your work in the portfolios in the future.
Have fun and best of luck.

The ‘Art & Design’ and ‘Calligraphy’ courses have been removed from OCA’s portfolio as from 1st July. This decision does not affect students already undertaking these courses. If you would like to discuss your study options please contact academic services on 0800 7312116.
