Lines & Strata 2

Open Drawing Exhibition in Wales
Who: Open to all artists born in, living and/ or working in Wales with no restrictions What: “Lines and Strata” is an open submissions drawing exhibition founded in Wales. The curators of this show do not prescribe to a traditional, ‘tight’ view of works on paper and submissions are welcomed from any discipline, [both fine and applied arts]. Any medium is considered except for photography, but including time-based media and where the elements of drawing predominate. Work must be recent and produced within the last two years.

When: Saturday 5th December 2009 and touring thereafter.

The Curators: This is an exhibition organised by artists based in West Wales who feel strongly that competitions should be free at the point of submission; this exhibition will not be subsidised by artists whose work has not been accepted for inclusion. The submission fee has been replaced by a hanging fee, paid by the artists who have been given the opportunity to participate.

Venue: Oriel Mwldan, Theatr Mwldan, Cardigan, and Denbigh Library Gallery. [Further venues are being approached and will be confirmed]. Submission: To reduce administrative costs, there is no submission form and submissions will be accepted by e-mail only and with no exception.

e-mail address: smokingbrush@btinternet.com

Send:

  • Up to three works as individual jpeg files of 1000pixels on the longest dimension and at 300dpi. These images may be selected by the curators for use on marketing and press material and must be printable quality. Time-based submissions should be e-mailed in either Quicktime or AVI format, not more than 50 second excerpt from films totalling no longer than 8 minutes.
  • Clearly indicate Title, Size, Medium and Price [including gallery commission of 40%] with each image.
  • Include your name, postal address and telephone number(s) with submissions.
Please do not send original work.
Deadline for submissions: 1st June 2009

This deadline is essential to the curators who must meet venue deadlines to ensure that exhibition arrangements are confirmed and that all bilingual publicity material, marketing, catalogue and exhibition signage is produced in time. Decisions will be made as soon as possible after receipt of material.

Submission Fee: Please note that there is NO SUBMISSION FEE; each work selected for the exhibition will be subject to a hanging fee of £20, payable by cheque upon notification of acceptance.
Delivery: Selected work must be delivered to Oriel Mwldan, on Tuesday 1st of December, between 11am and 3pm. Work delivered after this time will not be accepted by the curators. There will be a collection service from North Wales; details will be given upon acceptance of work.

Labeling: Artist name, title, medium and date on back. Duplicate this information on a label to hang over front of work. Please indicate top side of work on reverse.

Presentation: Work must be suitably framed. Works on paper must be glazed [clip frames are not acceptable] and ready to hang with mirror plates fitted and facing outwards. N.B. Work for sale will be subject to a gallery commission of 40%.

Prizes will be awarded: [Information to follow] These will be awarded by the sponsors of prizes and by popular vote of visitors to the exhibition. Judges decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Acknowledgement: The curators gratefully acknowledge the assistance of: Oriel Mwldan, Theatr Mwldan, Cardigan, Ceredigion, and Denbighshire County Council.
