Overview

Anyone who wants to have a greater appreciation of art. Some drawing skills are helpful but are not essential.

What does the course cover?

  • The Classical tradition
  • Gothic and Renaissance
  • Baroque
  • Romanticism to Impressionism
  • The Twentieth Century
  • Still-Life, portraits, the figure, interiors and landscapes.

Course Assessment

You will receive comments and direction from your tutor throughout the course. If you choose to have your work formally assessed, you will receive details on submitting a folio of work with the course materials.

Higher Education Credit: 40 credit points at Level 1.

Time Guide:

To complete the course in 10 months requires about 7 hours study a week

Materials:

A course pack and accompanying tapes are provided and will be sent to
you by post. No additional materials are required for this course. The course has been devised around Honour and Fleming's A World History of Art, and the DVD Art of the Western World. These are narrated by the television commentator and scholar Michael Woods and are included in the course pack.

Fees:

£580 full fee or £215 deposit and 6 x £74 monthly payments, totalling £659
