Overview

This course will help you to think about what poetry is and what it can do. It explains and illustrates the essential elements of the art and craft of poetry.

What does the course cover?

  • Building poems from observational notes
  • Writing poems on a range of subjects and styles
  • Learning the value of redrafting to improve work
  • Developing an understanding of style and vocabulary
  • Exploration of powerful themes and issues
  • Learning how to present manuscripts
  • Extending knowledge and appreciation of other poets

Course Assessment

You will receive comments and direction from your tutor throughout the course. If you choose to have your work formally assessed, you will receive details on submitting a folio of work with the course materials.

Higher Education Credit: 40 credit points at Level 1

Postal tuition you send work to your tutor for comments and direction.

Time Guide:

To complete the course in 9-12 months requires about 6 hours a week.
