Environmental Policy

Vision

To become a leading educational provider in terms of environmental performance .

Policy Statement

The OCA aims to foster among its staff, suppliers and customers an understanding of environmental issues in the context of its business. Our collective task is to ensure that we continually improve the environmental impact of our global activities. By this policy the OCA recognises its responsibility towards protection of the environment.

Mechanisms

We will:

• monitor our current environmental performance
• minimise the consumption of virgin natural resources and energy through efficient business practice and appropriate procurement decisions,
• minimise waste going to landfill by the adoption of improved operating practices and by reusing and recycling of materials whenever practical
• ensure all waste is disposed of in a safe and responsible manner
• identify in the development of new courses, processes that have an improved performance regarding their impact on the environment comply with environmental legislation.

Activities

The OCA has three main areas of control or influence over its environmental performance:

Head Office Operations

We will seek to:

• minimise per capita energy and resource use
• reuse or recycle resources when they have served their original purpose
• facilitate the use of public transport, walking and cycling for staff and visitors

Courses and Tutors

We will seek to:

• increase the efficiency of the production and distribution of course materials while ensuring we maintain or enhance the learner experience and learner access
• increase the environmental performance of our student and tutor communications while ensuring we maintain academic standards

Students

We will seek to influence student behaviour by:

• ensuring students are aware of the environmental impact of their studies, and
• ensuring students have access to information on how they may minimise their environmental impact.

Monitoring and Evaluation

We will establish a baseline performance position and monitor against this with an annual statement on progress being made to the board of trustees and to the public through the OCA website.
