Assessment & Credits

You will receive comments and direction from your tutor throughout the course but some students may wish to be formally assessed.

Assessment

If you choose to have your work assessed, you will receive details about submitting a folio of work at the end of your course. Assessment is available for all courses except Calligraphy, Understanding Dance and Delight in Singing 1 and 2.

There is an extra fee of £100 to cover the costs of formal assessment and all courses have external examiners who ensure a uniform standard of grading.

Assessment dates and deadlines

3 assessment events are currently held each year. These are in the months of March, August and November.

The deadline dates to send your submissions are as follows:

March

Submissions must not be sent before the 14 January and no later than the 28 January of the same year.

August
Submissions must not be sent before the 15 of June and no later than the 30 June of the same year.

November
Submissions must not be sent before the 15 of September and no later than the 30 September of the same year.

OCA reserves the right to refuse work, return work or charge a storage fee for work that is sent outside of these deadlines.

Credit Points

Our accredited courses enable you to obtain credit points for pass grades. These can be put towards university qualifications such as a BA Hons degree in Creative Arts  through the national Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme (CATS).

If you want to take a qualification such as a degree (360 credit points), a diploma (240 credit points) or a certificate (120 credit points) in higher education, your credit points may well be transferable to other institutions around the country. OCA has a specific credit transfer agreement with The Open University.
